Miso-marinated black cod was first popularized in the U.S. during the 1990s amid the New York haute cuisine scene, as a slightly modernized take on a traditional Japanese dish called gindara saikyo yaki. In the decades since, it’s become something of a signifier of high end eating—if a restaurant has a good miso cod on the menu, you can trust you’re in good hands, gastronomically speaking. As fans of fine foodstuffs ourselves, we couldn’t let restaurants have all the fun, so we’ve decided to join in by adding Trader Joe’s Wild Alaskan Black Cod Sablefish with a Miso Marinade to our freezers!
Made with wild caught Alsakan Black Cod (also known as Sablefish) that’s been marinated in a mix of Miso, rice wine, and sugar, our Miso Marinated Black Cod cooks quickly and effortlessly in the oven or air fryer, where the sweet Miso will have a chance to caramelize and crisp up beautifully. It makes a fantastic center of the plate protein option, especially when paired with a leafy green salad, or some steamed veggies and white rice. And considering how our retail compares to most restaurants, it’s also an especially economical option.
