Salsa Taquera

Have you ever noticed how good the salsa is when you visit a taqueria? That salsa roja is usually handmade from an authentic recipe, presenting a balance of tangy, sweet, roasty, savory, and spicy notes that all work together to make an ideal taco topper. We’ve made Trader Joe’s Salsa Taquera in that same tradition, with the ultimate goal of bringing the taco stand salsa experience right to your table at home!

Our Salsa Taquera (literally, “taco sauce”) begins with a base of diced red tomatoes and blended tomatillos. Of course, we also include essential aromatics, such as onion and garlic purée, plus cilantro, for a hint of bright earthiness. Crucially, some concentrated mango purée boosts the orange color and partners with the sweetness of the tomatoes to balance the tangy tartness of the tomatillos. Finally, there’s the all-important trio of chilis: jalapeños and habañeros for heat, with roasted green chiles to add even more depth of flavor.

Trader Joe’s Salsa Taquera is ideal for dipping your favorite TJ’s chips, like Organic Blue Corn Tortilla Chips, or Organic Corn Chip Dippers.
