Old Wisconsin Beef Summer Sausage

Despite what its name might lead you to believe, Summer Sausage is actually a savory treat suitable for any time of year. It simply gets its seasonal moniker from the fact that, unlike most other sausages, it can be stored at room temperature prior to opening, even during the hotter months of the year. Somewhat paradoxically, this aspect historically made Summer Sausage a traditional gift for the winter holidays within many cultures, as recipients would relish the opportunity to keep them preserved in their pantry until the summer months rolled around. Of course, we don’t carry this Beef Summer Sausage from the folks at Old Wisconsin® for its shelf stable status (although, that is a nice plus!)—we carry it because it’s delicious. 

Slow-smoked over hardwood and seasoned with traditional savory spices, Old Wisconsin® Beef Summer Sausage makes superb (and quick!) snack, either enjoyed solo or paired with your favorite TJ’s crackers and cheese. We truly mean it when we say it’s great any time of year, by the way. Try adding it to an appetizer spread when friends are over for a spring brunch. In the summer, use it to top a pasta salad at a barbecue. It’s an excellent ingredient for a hearty hot dish, and an able alternative to pepperoni on a pizza. It’s also quite at home on an hors d’oeuvres table at a holiday feast.
