Lots of people say “cal-ZOwn.” Italian speakers say, “cal-tzO-nay.” So, which is correct? We suppose it’s a matter of perspective. Though we may not be keen on judging pronunciation, we are fully committed to judging the quality of a calzone—say it however you like! To that end, let us just say that Trader Joe’s Meatball Calzone is unequivocally delicious.
Calzones are oven-baked turnovers made with bread dough and typically filled with savory ingredients. Like folded pizzas, they commonly contain tomato sauce, cheese, and meat or veggies. This one is loaded with Meatballs made from a combination of ground pork and ground beef bound together with some egg and seasoned with Parmesan cheese, onions, garlic, parsley, and black pepper. Along with the Meatballs, you’ll also find a rich tomato sauce and plenty of melty mozzarella cheese tucked inside the tender wheat flour dough.
Of course, the mozzarella’s not melty until you heat it. We recommend a twenty-minute bake in a 350°F conventional oven—or 15 minutes in your air fryer. You can also microwave it for four minutes, if your Calzone craving just can’t wait! Serve this Calzone with a sprinkle of torn fresh Basil or a shake of Aglio Olio Seasoning Blend and Shredded Parmesan on top. Don’t forget a side of Trader Joe’s Thick, Bold & Spicy Red Sauce for dipping. However you present it, Trader Joe’s Meatball Calzone is definitely a legit way to say “Delicious!”
