Returning to our Spotlight Cheese program to kick off 2026, Trader Joe’s Kaamté Gouda Style Cheese is a farmstead cheese, meaning the cows graze, the milk is collected, the cheese is crafted and aged all in the same place, on the same farm. The farm that produces our Kaamté Gouda Style Cheese is in the Twente region of the Netherlands, and it’s run by a family committed to making phenomenal cheese. What’s their secret, you ask? Contented cows. They rest on waterbeds, get massages, and are given lots of space to graze. The milk that’s collected from these cows is called meadow milk—a term given to the milk produced by cows that graze in meadows at least 120 days a year, six hours a day, from spring through autumn.

And since this Kaamté Gouda-Style Cheese is made with such full-flavored meadow milk from such contented cows, the resulting cheese is rich and nutty, with tantalizing bursts of calcium crystals, and undertones of buttery French Comté. It’s super creamy, semi-hard in texture, and each wheel is aged somewhere between seven and ten months. Try this Cheese with sliced green apple for a complex-tasting, simple-to-assemble snack. We also love adding a wedge to a charcuterie board for a party, and grating it for a unique addition to homemade fondue.
