Ham & Cheese Sandwich

If you’ve had the pleasure of strolling the famous Tulleries garden in Paris, it’s possible you have also had the pleasure of eating a jambon et buerre sandwich—a fresh baguette, slathered with a thick spread of salted butter and piled high with slices of ham. You can also ask for it with cheese or “salade” (i.e. lettuce); however you take it, it’s a handy way to satisfy your hunger as you saunter through the park.

Trader Joe’s Ham & Cheese Sandwich was inspired by this iconic Parisian nosh, though we’ve slightly adapted it to our taste. It starts with a seven-inch, soft & chewy baguette that’s split lengthwise, almost all the way through. One side is spread with a mildly tangy, dijon-style, stone-ground mustard and topped with slices of gruyere Cheese. On top of that, we’ve piled thinly sliced uncured Ham that delivers salty-sweet, meaty pork flavor. Finally, creamy pats of lightly sea-salted butter are pressed into the top half of the bread, providing an authentic finishing touch.

As-is, this simple Sandwich makes an effortless lunch or snack, whether you choose to enjoy it at work, at school, or strolling in your favorite neighborhood park. And it’s easy to customize, with some fresh Wild Arugula or a handful of mixed greens from our Champs Elysées salad mix.
