Crunchy Sesame Sunflower Seeds Pepitas Salsa Macha

Salsa macha is a condiment of Mexican origin that’s less like a tomato salsa, and more like a chili oil, similar in some respects to Trader Joe’s Crunchy Chili Onion [sku 62480]. On a recent trip to Oaxaca, one of our buyers discovered a delicious version of salsa macha in a local market that exchanged the typical peanut base for a trio of seeds. This became the inspiration for Trader Joe’s Crunchy Sesame Sunflower Pepita Salsa Macha!

Crunchy Salsa Macha has almost all of its ingredients listed on the front of the label. All that’s left to mention on the back is olive oil, garlic powder, Pequin chile peppers, and salt. Just by its makeup, you can surmise that it has a lively texture, with its nutty trio of Sesame seeds, Sunflower Seeds and Pepitas (aka pumpkin seeds). The seeds are suspended in olive oil that’s further enlivened by some spicy, Pequin chiles, which have their origin in Mexico where this salsa is made for us.

This versatile condiment has so many yummy uses, including (but not limited to): dipping bread and tortilla chips; drizzling over tacos, roasted veggies, and pizza; adding to salad dressings and soups; marinating poultry or beef; using as a cooking oil for frying eggs; replacing garlic butter on your toasted bread... We would even go so far as to say that Trader Joe’s Salsa Macha creates a tantalizing dessert atop a scoop of French Vanilla Ice Cream!
