So much depends upon the texture of a tortilla. Too firm, and it’ll crack when being folded into a taco. Too soft, and it’ll eat more like a crepe. To achieve the perfect balance (and, thus, a superlatively satisfyingly bite), we reached out to a vendor who uses an ingenious blend of corn and wheat in their recipe. This harmonious mix produces a tortilla that’s soft and pliable enough to properly fold around your favorite fillings, while still being strong enough to hold those fillings in the first place. Available exclusively in our West Coast and Southwest stores, Trader Joe’s Corn & Wheat Tortillas are a must-have whenever tacos, fajitas, or huevos rancheros are on the menu. We find that their tooth-sinking consistency and mild flavor makes them especially suited for loading up with Beef Birria, Pollo Asado, or well-seasoned Beef-less Ground Beef—though you truly cant go wrong with any kind of protein or veggies, in our opinion. We’re also quite find of cutting them into triangles and frying them into chips—especially if you then smother them in salsa for homemade chilaquiles.
