Chopped Salad Blend

While its name might seem generic, or even redundant (aren’t all salads chopped, in some manner or another?), the chopped salad has a rather specific history, originating in Beverly Hills during the Golden Age of Hollywood. It’s said that its inventor, conscious of the finery worn by the stars that frequented his restaurant, first served a salad where every ingredient had been chopped into bite-sized pieces as a way to minimize mess. In the decades since, the chopped salad has retained a certain sense of elegance, maintaining a presence on trendy bistro menus the world over. For our part, we’re happy to add a bit of convenience to its long legacy via the introduction of Trader Joe’s Chopped Salad Blend to our produce section. 

Made with a mix of finely chopped bits of peppery escarole, earthy endive, crunchy red cabbage, lightly spicy radicchio, and slightly sweet carrot, this expertly balanced Blend works wonderfully as a base for an easy side salad on any given weeknight. Simply toss with your favorite dressing (like our Organic Italian) and toppings (like our Rosemary Croissant Croutons), and you’re all set. And if you want to make a meal out of that salad, just add your favorite protein to the proceedings—we’re particularly fond of featuring Organic Garbanzo Beans and diced Uncured Applewood Smoked Salami.
