BBQ Pork Fried Rice

Fried Rice is an ancient dish, ostensibly created as a thrifty way to enjoy left-over food. Over the years, it has joyfully evolved to become a celebrated cuisine in its own right, marked by its ability to incorporate a variety of ingredients—meats, vegetables, and even different kinds of rice.

We created Trader Joe’s BBQ Pork Fried Rice in the style of traditional Cha Siu (literally “fork roasted”) Pork, with a marinade that not only imparts sweet & savory flavors, but also leaves behind a characteristically red-hue. (One of the few ways we did deviate from tradition is by our use of beet juice powder for color, instead of the artificial food coloring often found in restaurant recipes.) The barbecued Pork is combined with prepared, short-grain Rice, along with a host of veggies, including green onions, sweet corn, peas, red bell peppers, and carrots—before it’s all quick-frozen, packaged, and sent to our stores.

After just 6 to 7 minutes in your skillet at home, the delicious flavors are awakened, and all of the vibrant colors come to life. Celebrate this Pork Fried Rice, dim-sum style, when you serve it along with a spread of Chicken Shu Mai, Vegetable Dumplings, and Cha Siu Bao.
